CLEVELEYS Road Club have earned backing for their proposal to stage a new event in the 2009 calendar.
A two-up 10 miles team time trial on the L105 course at Garstang has been approved and will be run on February 21.

While it is early in the calendar, it is felt that riders will be keen to take part after the winter lay-off from racing.

And so
fears that next year there would be no time trials within the north Lancashire and Cumbria area which are held within the boundaries of the North District Council of the Cycling Time Trials have been proved to be groundless.

The problem arose with the retirement of the secretary, and there was no immediate response from local cyclists to take on the onerous task.

The annual meeting of the North District Council was held last week and to the relief of many club cyclists a new secretary was found. Carol Westmorland, of Border City Wheelers, who is no mean time trialist herself, has taken over.

With such a large area containing around 40 courses, which are used by over 30 clubs, the extent of organisation is enormous.

There are course measurers, time-keepers, handicappers as well as secretaries of all the affiliated clubs in the area to oversee, all of which is both time-consuming and never-ending.

Cleveleys Road Club have always been a strong supporter of the North DC, and this was continued at the meeting when their racing secretary Derek Parkinson was elected to the committee.
